KINGS POINT, NY - Taking on the top team in the Skyline Conference, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to the United State Merchant Marine Academy, losing to the Mariners by a score of 66-39 on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw two players score in double digits, with
Shai Rahamim tallying 18 points and
Daniella Bessler putting up 11 points.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Fortune Hanan once again proved herself a force in the paint, notching four blocks and six rebounds on the night.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-14, 2-9 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both squads traded baskets through the first five minutes of play, with Yeshiva trailing by just two at 9-7 with 5:05 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Macs would struggle to continue that level of scoring, managing just two more points and closing out the period down, 20-9.
- The Macs' offensive struggles carried into the second quarter, with YU's lone bucket being a three from Shai Rahaim. Come the halftime break, the Macs found themselves trailing, 42-12.
- Finally firing on all cylinders, the Maccabee offense returned to its usual form in the third quarter, with the women in blue and white tallying 16 points on buckets from Rahamim, Bessler and Jasmin Maly-Danker. However, the defensive unit could not match that level of production, with YU allowing USMMA 16 points of their own.
- The Maccabees continued to push throughout the fourth quarter, even outsourcing their conference opponent by a margin of 11-8. However, the gap between the two squads proved insurmountable, as Yeshiva fell, 66-39.
