QUEENS, NY - Wrapping up their regular season slate, the Yeshiva Women's Tennis Team took down the University of Mount Saint Vincent, defeating the Dolphins by a score of 6-1 on Sunday, Oct. 19th.
The Maccabees started out strong in doubles play, taking two of three matches to carry a 1-0 lead into singles. YU maintained that momentum throughout their singles matches, winning five of six to take home a 6-1 victory.
About the win, Head Coach Miller had to say, "subs came off the bench and played great!"
With the win, the Maccabees close out the regular season with a record of 5-3, 4-3 in conference play, a mark good enough to secure the #4 seed in the upcoming Skyline Playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Yeshiva established their dominance early, seeing wins in both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded doubles matches as the pairs of Anna Laufer/Sarah Schewitz and Eliana Tilem/Leebee Bendheim took down their conference counterparts by scores of 6-4 and 6-0 respectively.
- Despite the duo of Rachel Hirt/Rebecca Sarraf falling in the No. 3 seeded match, the Macs' early victories were enough to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead headed into singles play.
Singles:
- Erasing any doubt of their hold on the contest, the Maccabees decisively wrapped up the dual match in singles play. Five different YU players took their match in straight sets, with Laufer (6-3, 6-3), Schewitz (6-0, 6-2), Tilem (6-4, 6-2), Sarraf (6-1, 6-3) and Hannah Cohen (6-0, 6-2) all coming out on top.
- Yeshiva's only loss came in the No. 4 slot, where Hirt fell by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Despite this setback, YU's lead proved indomitable, taking the match, 6-1.
