NEW YORK, NY - Closing out the week versus a conference foe, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to Purchase College, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Oct. 26th.
On both sides of the ball, the Maccabees were led by
Elle Ohayon, with junior tallying seven kills, two aces, and 14 digs on the afternoon.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-10, 0-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees kept the contest close throughout the first set, not allowing Purchase more than a five point lead through the first 25 serves, and then closing within three at 18-15. However, from there, YU's offense would stall, managing just three more points and dropping the period, 25-18.
- Yeshiva's attack struggled in set two. Despite a pair of kills from Ohayon and Kayla Mintz, YU's point total would not break into double digits, with the team ultimately falling, 25-9.
- Despite a slow start, falling behind 9-3 through the first dozen serves, Yeshiva's offense showed fight throughout the third set. The Maccabee spikers spurred YU back into the match, with an Ohayon kill igniting a 9-5 run that got the Macs within two points at 15-13. Capitalizing on that momentum, the Macs rallied behind their ace, with two back-to-back Ohayon service aces knotting the set up at 18-all. This deadlock would last through the next six serves, finding both squads tied at 21. However, it was Purchase that managed to close out the period. The Macs were held to just one more point, falling by a score of 25-22.
