NEW YORK, NY - Playing arguably their best game all season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Baruch College, losing to the Bearcats by a score of 79-60 on Sunday, Nov. 23rd.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw a career game out of
Ilana Schwartz, with the rookie putting up a new personal best 20 points. Two of her teammates also scored in double-digits, with
Naomi Sigman and
Simone Amkraut both putting up 12.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Fortune Hanan dominated the paint, pulling down a season-high 10 rebounds on the night.
With the result, the Macs are now 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees fell behind early in the first quarter, with Baruch's lead hitting double digits at 14-4 with 3:35 remaining. While six straight points from Schwartz pushed YU's point total to 10, Yeshiva closed out the period trailing by 11 at 21-10.
- YU found their rhythm in the second quarter, going blow for blow with the Bearcats. The Macs tallied 15 points thanks to the sharpshooting of Sigman, Amkraut, and Danielle Zaretsky, but could not make a dent in Baruch's advantage, going into the half still down 11 at 36-25.
- The Macs continued their attack early in the third quarter. YU knocked Baruch's edge down to just five points at 36-31 90 seconds in behind three quick shots from Hanan and Amkraut. However, the women in blue and white could not fully seize the advantage for themselves, and the Bearcats quickly reestablished control, once again up by double digits just four minutes later at 44-34. The home team's lead would only grow, up 55-37 by the end of the period.
- Yeshiva had their most successful quarter of the entire season in the fourth, putting up 23 points on buckets from Schwartz, Sigman, Amkraut, and Tali Cohen. Despite the effort though, it was not enough to catch Baruch's offensive output, who outdid the Macs with 24 points on the period. When the final horn sounded, the Macs had fallen, 79-60.
