THROGGS NECK, NY - Taking the court for the final time before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 73-48 on Tuesday, Nov. 25th.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw two players score in double digits, with
Ilana Schwartz leading the way with 16, while
Naomi Sigman dropped 14.
On top of her offensive prowess, Sigman also dominated the glass for YU, completing a double-double with 13 rebounds on the night.
With the result, the Macs are now 0-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva started slow in the first quarter, managing just seven points over 10 minutes of play. SJLI took full advantage of YU's struggles, putting up 24 points of their own to take a 24-7 lead.
- The Maccabees' struggles continued in the second quarter, not managing their first basket of the period until the clock read 3:37 left in the half. While two late triples from Schwartz and Sigman pushed YU's points total into the double digits, the Macs went into the half down big at 43-17.
- The Yeshiva offense started to hum at the start of the second half, putting up 11 points in the third quarter. However, they could not make a dent in their deficit, still trailing 62-28 by the end of the period thanks to SJLI's 19 points over the period.
- The fourth quarter was far and away YU's most successful period of play, with the women in blue and white outsourcing their conference foe by a margin of 20-11 thanks to baskets from Schwartz, Sigman, Simone Amkraut, Hannah Rashty, and Lauren Ashkenazi. However, the effort was not enough to overcome SJLI's advantage, with the Macs ultimately falling, 73-48.
