JAMAICA, NY - Tallying a notch in the W column for the first time this season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team took down York College, defeating the Cardinals by a score of 68-37 on Monday, Dec. 1st.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw three players score in double digits. Rookie
Ilana Schwartz led the way with 19, while
Fortune Hanan and
Jasmin Maly-Danker tallied 13 and 10 respectively.
On top of her offensive prowess, Hanan also dominated the glass for the Macs, completing her first double-double of the year with 14 rebounds on the night.
Tali Cohen locked down the defensive side of the ball for the Macs, stifling the York attack with monstrous marks of six steals and three blocks.
With the win, the Macs are now 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees jumped out to a huge early lead in the first quarter, putting up 15 points through eight minutes before York managed their first basket. YU closed out the period up big at 17-6.
- Yeshiva's offense cooled off in the second quarter, only notching nine points on baskets from Maly-Danker, Schwartz, and Cohen. However, where YU's attack faltered, the defense held firm, limiting the Cardinals to just four points to go into the half leading by a score of 26-10.
- The Macs' offense got back into rhythm at the start of the third quarter, pushing their lead past 20 points at 37-17 thanks to the sharpshooting of Schwartz and Cohen. This margin held through the end of the period, with Yeshiva up 43-23 when the buzzer sounded.
- The fourth quarter saw an offensive explosion, with both squads putting up a combined 39 points across the 10 minutes of play. However, it was YU that dominated the scorebook, scoring 25 to York's 14, an effort that iced Yeshiva's 68-37 victory.
