NEW YORK, NY - Still looking for their first conference win, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Purchase College, losing to the Panthers by a score of 91-68 on Sunday, Dec. 14th.
The Maccabees were led on both sides of the ball by
Naomi Sigman, as the junior forward tallied a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while tacking on three assists and two steals.
Not to be outdone, rookie
Ilana Schwartz also scored in double-digits, splashing in 18 points.
With the result, the Macs are now 1-8, 0-5 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struggled in the first quarter, only managing seven points. Purchase took advantage of YU's offensive struggles, jumping out to a 19-7 lead.
- The Maccabee attack finally found its groove in the second quarter, tallying 18 points off baskets from Sigman, Schwartz, Jasmin Maly-Danker, Eliana Leitner, Simone Amkraut, and Tali Cohen. However, despite the success, Purchase still carried a comfortable advantage into the half, with the Macs headed into the locker room trailing, 43-25.
- The Maccabees had their best quarter in the third, outsourcing their opponent, 25-22, while shooting 57% from the floor. Unfortunately, the push would only shrink the margin by so much, with the Macs still trailing 65-50 headed into the final period.
- YU's offense once again performed well in the fourth and final quarter, tallying 18 points behind the shooting of Schwartz, Sigman, Leitner, and Danielle Zaretsky. The effort would fall short however, as the Macs ultimately lost, 91-68.
