Women’s Basketball Drops Road Matchup at Five Towns

DIX HILLS, NY - Facing off against their penultimate non-conference opponent, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell at Five Towns College, losing to the Sound by a score of 96-64 on Sunday, Dec. 7th.

The Maccabees were led by Naomi Sigman, with the junior guard tallying a team-high 26 points. The Woodmere native also dominated the glass for YU, coming within one board of a double-double with nine rebounds.

Simone Amkraut played a pivotal role for the Macs on both sides of the ball, scoring in double-digits at 11 points, while also spearheading the defensive unit with four steals.

With the result, the Macs are now 1-6 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maccabees got off to a slow start, not managing their first basket until over four minutes had elapsed on the game clock. Five Towns took advantage of YU's shooting woes, jumping out to a 14-2 lead. Yeshiva rallied in the latter half of the period, pushing their point total into double digits behind baskets from Amkraut and Sigman, but still closed out the quarter trailing, 22-13.

  • Yeshiva came out of the gate swinging to kick off the second quarter, quickly closing the margin between the two squads to just six points at 22-16 with 9:46 on the clock. However, the Macs could not maintain this momentum, with Five Towns permanently pushing their lead into the double digits less than a minute later. Yeshiva tallied 12 points throughout the period, but could not match the Sound's offensive output, headed into the half down by a score of 43-25.

  • Yeshiva's deficit grew in the third quarter. Five Towns' edge passed 20 points, and despite buckets from Amkraut, Sigman, Fortune Hanan, and Danielle Zaretsky, the Maccabees could not answer. YU went into the final period down 30 at 73-43.

  • YU had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, putting up 21 points on 7-20 shooting, including 4-8 from Sigman. Unfortunately, the same was true for Five Towns, with the Sound notching 23 points over the 10 minutes of play. By the time the final horn sounded, Yeshiva had fallen, 96-64.
