Men’s Volleyball Drops Road Contest at UMSV

BRONX, NY -  Heading out to Riverdale, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball team faced off against the University Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins. The Macs battled, but ultimately lost the match 3-0 on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Offensively, the dynamic duo of Jonathan Werta and Massimo Bertini led the team with four kills each, while setter Amiti Trabelsi contributed with five assists.

Defensively, Yoni Rubin anchored the back row with a dominant performance, recording eight kills. Werta and Trabelsi provided strong support with seven digs each, while Werta led the team with two blocks.

With the loss, the Macs are now 1-9, 0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Macs struck first, capitalizing on a service error from the Dolphins. However, the dolphins quickly seized control with a dominant run, surging ahead 7-1. Looking to stop the momentum, Bertini delivered a crucial kill off an assist from Trabelsi, followed by a well-placed strike from Werta to cut the deficit to 12-4. Yeshiva found their rhythm and responded with a short run of their own, highlighted by key plays from Werta and Aden Frohlich. However, the Dolphins' offense remained relentless, racking up multiple kills to maintain their lead. Despite the Macs' efforts, they were unable to close the gap, dropping the first set, 25-14.

  • The second set proved a back-and-forth battle early on, with both teams struggling to find consistency. Yeshiva got on the board with a kill from Werta off a Lesnoy assist, but a series of service errors on both sides kept the score tight, with the Macs trailing by two. However, the Dolphins found their rhythm, using a strong offensive surge to extend their lead to 17-7. Yeshiva fought to close the gap, highlighted by a kill from Amiti Trabelsi, but the effort was not enough to shift the momentum. The Dolphins maintained control and closed out the set, 25-14.

  • The Macs came out strong in the third set, scoring three quick points to take an early lead. However, the Dolphins quickly responded with a run of their own, pulling ahead by four. Yeshiva battled back with key kills from Rubin and Werta, while capitalizing on the Dolphin's service errors to trim the deficit to 12-10. The set remained tightly contested, with both teams exchanging points, bringing the score to 21-19. Despite Yeshiva's resilience, the Dolphins closed out the period with a quick four-point surge, securing a 25-19 set win and clinching the match.
