NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Tallying their first W of 2025, the Yeshiva Softball Team split a doubleheader with the York College Cardinals, losing game one by a score of 31-18, and winning game two by a score of 6-4.
Â
The Maccabees were helmed by
Galit Roth, with the sophomore catcher tallying a stat line of five runs, five hits, five RBIS and a stolen base across the pair of contests.
Â
This win is not only the team's first of the season, but their first in over two years. The program's last victory came over York back in March of 2023.
Â
With the result, the Macs are now 1-9 on the year.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game One (L, 31-18)
- After surrendering four runs in the top of the first, the Maccabees got off to an explosive start in the the bottom of the inning. All nine players in the lineup crossed home plate, with Ariella Addi, Hadassah Greenberg and Roth all coming back for second helpings, an effort that rocketed Yeshiva out to a 12-4 lead.
Â
- Unfortunately, YU's momentum faltered over the next two innings, with the Macs able to get runners in scoring position, but never bring them home. Taking advantage of YU's stagnation, York scored eight more runs, leveling the score at 12-all.
Â
- Yeshiva fell into a deficit in the top of the fourth, with nine Cardinal runs putting York up, 21-12. While two scores in the bottom of the inning combined with three in the fifth managed to claw YU's point total up to 18, it was not enough to catch their opponent, ultimately dropping the contest, 31-18.

Â
- Yeshiva's pitching also capitalized on that momentum, holding York scoreless through the first two innings, and allowing just two runs in the third.
Â
- The Macs expanded their lead in the third, with Leibowitz scoring on a wild pitch to increase YU's lead out to 6-2.
Â
