NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Taking on their first opponent of the 2025 season, the Yeshiva Softball Team fell to York College, dropping a double header to the Cardinals by scores of 27-11 and 20-11 on Thursday, Mar. 6th.
Â
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Tali Schimmel and
Galit Roth, with Schimmel tallying four RBIS, two runs and one hit in game one, while Roth put up three runs, two hits and one RBI in game two.
Â
On the mound, Yeshiva saw a stellar performance out of
Kayla Cagan in the first game, with the senior allowing just one hit and one run while tallying two strikeouts over one inning pitched.
Â
The Maccabees welcomed new blood out onto the diamond, with Roth,
Maya Dennen,
Ariella Addi,
Alyssa Feldman,
Layla Hellman,
Hadassah Greenberg,
Tali Finkelstein,
Allison Bender and
Simone Amkraut all making their career debuts versus York.
Â
With the result, the Macs are now 0-2 on the year.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 27-11)
- Despite falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Maccabees quickly rebounded in the bottom of the inning. Yeshiva loaded the bases, with Feldman and Roth drawing walks, while Bender reached on a ground ball to second base. Schimmel then stepped to the plate for perhaps the greatest season-opening at bat in YU Softball history, blasting a ball past the centerfielder for an inside-the-park grand slam. This hit not only put Yeshiva up 4-1, but was the Macs' first home run since 2018.
Â
- Unfortunately, the Macs' lead would not hold, with Yeshiva allowing 11 runs in the top of the second and falling behind, 12-4.
Â
- The Maccabees would continue to fight, scoring twice in the bottom of the second, once in the third, three times in the fourth and once in the fifth. However, the effort was not enough to keep pace with the York bats, as the Cardinals came out on top, 27-11.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (L, 20-11)
- The two squads remained deadlocked through the first inning at 1-all, with Cagan scoring for the Maccabees off a Roth RBI single to left field.
Â
- However, much like the first game, the Macs fell behind in the second inning, conceding five runs while scoring just two of their own, trailing 6-3 come the third.
Â
- York continued to grow their lead in the third inning, putting up six runs while Yeshiva managed just two.
Â
- The Macs narrowed the gap in the fourth, holding the Cardinals scoreless while both Addi and Roth crossed home plate, closing the scoreline to 12-7.
Â
- It was in the fifth though that York pulled away, notching eight runs to go up, 20-7. Four Yeshiva scores in the bottom of the inning were not enough of a response, as the Maccabees ultimately fell, 20-11.
