Arnow Homer Not Enough to Lift Baseball Over Maritime

THROGGS NECK, NY - Returning to conference play for the first time since the Apr. 4th, the Yeshiva Baseball Team took on Maritime College, dropping a double header to the Mariners by scores of 14-0 and 14-4 on Friday, Apr. 25th.

The Maccabees were led by the duo of Jacob Canner and Jake Arnow, with Canner slapping two hits in game one, while Arnow tallied a stat line of three runs, two hits and an RBI in game two.

From the mound, Mendy Kanofsky had a stellar outing in game one, pitching the final two innings and allowing just one hit in the process.

With the results, the Macs are now 1-21, 0-14 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 14-0)
  • Despite not tallying any runs, the Yeshiva offense was consistently able to get runners on base, tallying hits in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings.

  • YU's best chance to score came in the top of the sixth. After singling to right field, Canner was pinch run for by Tzvi Motechin, who proceeded to steal second, but was caught trying to also nab third.

  • Unfortunately, the Yeshiva pitching staff could not hold Maritime in check, surrendering five runs in the first, five runs in the second, three runs in the third, and one run in the fourth.

MAC LEADERS
  • Hits: Canner (2), Steinmetz (1), Perl (1), Bongart (1)
  • Stolen Bases: Motechin (1)

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (L, 14-4)
  • Yeshiva's offense saw more success in game two, tallying four runs.

  • Arnow scored Yeshiva's first two runs, crossing home on a passed ball in the first inning, and on a throwing error in the third. Noah Steinmetz tacked on YU's third run in the third, coming home off a Canner sac fly. Arnow then closed out the scoring in the fifth, notching a solo shot for YU's first home runof the season.

  • Unfortunately, the success of the Maccabee bats was not enough to keep up with the Maritime offense, with the Mariners tallying six runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the eighth.
