Men’s Soccer Blanks Purchase for Season’s First Win

NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ - Recording their first win of the 2025 season, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer team took down Purchase College, defeating the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 14th.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by star striker Franco Busso, who tallied two goals on the afternoon. He was joined in the scoring by Tanaka Maramba, who recorded the first score of his Yeshiva career.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ilan Ganem racked up his first career clean sheet, notching one save while facing down two shots.

With the result, the Macs are now 1-3-2, 1-1-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva opened the scoring early, with Busso taking full advantage of chaos in the Purchase box to hammer home his third goal of the season, putting the Macs up 1-0.

  • Not letting their foot off the gas, the Macs scored again just five minutes later. Busso found paydirt for the second time after handling a beautiful long ball from Asher Light, doubling YU's lead to 2-0, a scoreline that would hold into the half.

  • In the second half, the Macs embodied the ethos, "the best defense is a good offense," keeping up nearly constant pressure. Through the latter 45 minutes of play, the Maccabees outshot their opponent, 10-1, completely stifling any hopes of a Purchase comeback.

  • Yeshiva effectively iced the game in the 79th minute, with the speedy Maramba outrunning nearly every Purchase defender to track down a ball from Busso, firing it past the Panther keeper from nearly 40 yards out. This goal put the Macs up, 3-0, a margin that proved insurmountable.

  • When the final horn sounded, Yeshiva had claimed a 3-0 victory, the team's first win of the season, and the team's first win under Head Coach Alejandro Saul.
