THROGGS NECK, NY - Taking on their final opponent before the start of the holidays, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team drew Maritime College, tying with the Privateers at a score of 1-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 17th.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by
Hadar Lavinsky, with the Brazilian notching YU's lone goal on the night, his fifth of the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, keeper
Ilan Ganem had a stellar night, facing down 13 shots and notching two saves.
With the result, the Macs are now 1-3-3, 1-1-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struck early, tallying a goal in just the 19th minute. Outrunning his defender on the right side of the field, Lavinsky beautifully handled a ball from fellow striker Franco Busso, hammering home a shot low and left to put the Macs up 1-0.
- Despite continued pressure from both squads over the next 30 minutes, neither was able to find paydirt, with the 1-0 scoreline holding into the half.
- The Macs kept up the pressure throughout the second half, firing five shots at the Maritime keeper over 45 minutes of play. However, it was the Privateers that managed to score, sneaking a shot past Ganem in the 82nd minute.
- Both teams managed one more shot over the final eight minutes of play, both of which were off target. When the final horn sounded, the conference foes were knotted up, 1-1.
