QUEENS, NY - Dropping to a conference foe, the Yeshiva Women's Tennis Team fell to St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-2 on Sunday, Sept. 14th.
The Maccabees started out slow, dropping two of three doubles matches. Despite two hardfought wins in singles play, the Macs were unable to mount a comeback, ultimately falling, 5-2.
With the result, the Macs are now 3-2, 2-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Yeshiva struggled early in doubles play, seeing the pairs of Rina Pollock/Micka Mimoun (6-4) and Sarah Grunseid/Eliana Tilem (6-3) fall in the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches respectively.
- The Macs saw success in the No. 3 slot, as the duo of Sarah Schewitz/Leebee Bendheim triumphed over their opponents, 6-2.
- The late push was not enough however to capture the doubles point, as YU went into singles trailing, 1-0.
Singles:
- The Maccabees saw more success in singles play, picking up two points when Schewitz (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) and Rebecca Sarraf (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) came out on top in the No. 4 and No. 6 slots respectively.
- However, Yeshiva's other matches did not see the same turnaround, as Pollock (6-0, 6-0), Mimoun (6-1, 6-4), Grunseid (7[7]-6[5], 1-6, 2-6) and Tilem (7-5, 5-7, 1[7]-0[4]) all fell, resulting in the Macs surrendering a 5-2 dual match loss.
