Women’s Volleyball Drops Home Conference Opener to Mount Saint Mary

NEW YORK, NY - Playing host to a Skyline team for the first time this season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, losing to the Knights by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 14th.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the ever-reliable duo of Shany Elmaleh and Elle Ohayon, with Ohayon tallying four kills while Elmaleh led the team with seven assists.

Elmaleh also stepped up on the defensive side of the ball, notching 10 digs on the night.

With the loss, the Macs are now 2-4, 0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maccabees kept things competitive through the first 18 serves, trailing just 11-7 thanks to kills from Leya Dennen, Progress Gasa and Eden Fitoussi. However, it was then that Mount Saint Mary took control of the contest, going on a 14-4 run to claim the period, 25-11.

  • Yeshiva's struggles continued in the second set. The Macs managed just one kill, falling 25-8.

  • Down but certainly not out, it was in the third set that YU fought back. Yeshiva fell behind early, trailing 13-5. However, the Macs rallied, closing their deficit to just four at 15-11. The Maccabee offense kept up the pressure, stealing points off of MSM attacking mistakes and back-to-back service errors, yet the effort was not enough to usurp control of the period. Ultimately, the women in blue and white dropped the set, 25-18.
