OLD WESTBURY, NY - Winning their first conference set of the season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball team fell to The College at Old Westbury, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-1 on Monday, Sept. 15th.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by
Elle Ohayon and
Shany Elmaleh, with Ohayon tallying four kills, while Elmaleh led the team with eight assists.
On the defensive side of the ball, YU saw a standout performance from
Emma Lieber, as the sophomore libero tallied 28 digs on the night.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-5, 0-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva jumped out to an early lead in set one, going up 14-6 off kills from Progress Gasa and Candace Villavicencio, combined with a service ace from Kayla Mintz. While the Panthers began to narrow the deficit as the period progressed, getting within four at 16-12, and three at 17-14, Yeshiva's offensive unit always managed to keep their foes at arms length, cementing their hold on the contest with a 5-0 run that shot the Macs' advantage out to 24-15. A brief Old Westbury push brought the Panthers within four at 24-20, but a service error gave YU the final point they needed to claim the set at 25-20.
- Much like in set one, the Macs opened set two strong, taking a 9-6 lead thanks to kills from Ohayon and Eden Fitoussi. However, unlike the previous period, they were unable to make the most of their early success, losing both the lead and ultimately the set, 25-14.
- YU's attack began to falter in set three, falling behind 18-8 and seeing just two kills through the first two dozen serves. The Macs rallied, getting within four points at 20-16. However, the effort was not enough, as Yeshiva fell, 25-18.
- Kicking off set four, both sides were deadlocked through the first 14 serves, with the Macs trailing by just two at 8-6. However, it was then that Old Westbury ran away with the contest, racing out to a 19-9 lead. The Macs fought back, pushing their point total out to 17, yet the comeback came up short, as YU fell, 25-17.
