Women’s Tennis Downs Baruch for Season-Opening Win

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Taking the court for the first time in the 2025-26 season, the Yeshiva Women's Tennis Team took down Baruch College, defeating the Bearcats by a score of 6-1 on Monday, Sept. 1st.

On top of being the team's season opener, the dual match served as the Maccabee debut for four players, with Rina Pollock, Sarah Schewitz, Leebee Bendheim and Rachel Hirt all donning the blue and white for the first time.

The Maccabees started out strong in doubles play, capturing wins in two out of three matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles. YU continued to see success in singles play, taking five of six singles matches to secure the 6-1 win.

About the match, Head Coach Ira Miller had to say, "a great way to start off the new season!"

With the result, the Macs are now 1-0 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
  • Despite dropping the No. 1 seeded match, the duo of Eliana Tilem/Anna Laufer secured a 6-2 win in the No. 2 slot. That victory, combined with a Baruch forfeit in the No. 3 match, gave YU a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Singles:
  • In a repeat to their doubles success, Yeshiva quickly rebounded from a No. 1 seeded match loss in singles.

  • Laufer slugged out a three-set, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory in the No. 2 position, before straight set wins from Gabrielle Resnick (6-1, 6-2), Schewitz (6-1, 6-4) and Hirt (6-4, 6-0) locked down Yeshiva's 6-1 domination of the eight-time CUNYAC Champion.
