SALEM, MA - Taking the court for the first time in the 2025 season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to Salem State, losing to the Vikings by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Aug. 31st.
On top of being the season opener, the match also served as an important milestone for five student-athletes, with
Progress Gasa,
Eden Fitoussi,
Emma Lieber,
Noa Benhamo and
Leya Dennen all making their Maccabee debuts up in Salem.
Offensively, the Macs were led by the duo of
Elle Ohayon and Gasa, with both tallying nine kills on the afternoon.
Ohayon also served as the team's anchor defensively, leading her squad with 13 digs.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva started out slow in the first set, falling behind 11-3 through the first 14 serves. While four straight points narrowed YU's deficit to four at 11-7, the effort fell short of wresting control of the period away from Salem. The Macs only managed four more points, ultimately dropping the set, 25-11.
- Much like the first, YU fell behind early in the second set. Trailing by 10 at 15-5, a hammer down from Ohayon finally got the Macs their first kill of the period, but the Canadian's spike proved insufficient to get Yeshiva back into the set, with the Maccabees falling, 25-11.
- The Macs fared somewhat better in the third set, keeping pace with Salem throughout the first two dozen serves to see the scoreline land at 12-8 in the Vikings' favor. Kills from Gasa and Ohayon broke the Macs into double digits, yet the push by the Maccabees' offense was not enough to get Yeshiva their first set win of the season, with YU falling, 25-16.
