Men’s Soccer Drops Skyline Opener at Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, NY - Taking on their first conference opponent of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team fell to The College at Old Westbury, losing to the Panthers by a score of 4-2 on Thursday, Sept. 4th.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the pair of Hadar Lavinsky and Franco Busso, with both tallying a goal on the afternoon.

On the defensive side of the ball, keeper Abraham Gabay had a stellar outing, facing down 18 shots and notching four saves.

With the loss, the Macs are now 0-3, 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite early pressure from the Maccabees that culminated in multiple shots on goal, it was Old Westbury that opened the scoring, taking a 2-0 lead with goals in the 14th minute and 34th minute.

  • However, Yeshiva did not let the deficit stifle their attack, responding quickly. Just two minutes after the Panthers' second score, Lavinsky skillfully handled a ball from Israel Bussu, burying it in the back of the net and cutting the match's margin to one.

  • The Macs built on that success just nine minutes later, with a second goal off the right foot of Busso tying the game at 2-2. This scoreline would hold into the half, with the teams going into the break knotted up.

  • Unfortunately, the Macs could not replicate their first half success in the second. Yeshiva had opportunities to score, seeing shots on goal by Busso, Lavinsky and Ivan Zirlinger, but all three were turned away.

  • Old Westbury took full advantage of YU's offensive woes, scoring twice more in the 50th and 82nd minutes to ultimately take the match, 4-2.
