Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, NY - Still looking for their first conference win of the season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell at Sarah Lawrence College, losing to the Gryphons by a score of 78-69 on Sunday, Jan. 18th.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw five players score in double digits. Simone Amkraut and Naomi Sigman both cracked 15 points with 17 and 15 respectively, while Illana Schwartz, Jasmin Maly-Danker, and Fortune Hanan put up 13, 12, and 10.

On top of her scoring prowess, Hanan also had a monster outing on the defensive side of the ball. The Brooklyn native completed a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds, while also tallying five blocks and a steal.

With the result, the Macs are now 1-15, 0-11 in Skyline play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads traded baskets throughout the first quarter, seeing the game tied at 17-all with just 49 seconds left on the clock. A three-point play gave Sarah Lawrence a small cushion, sending the Macs into the break trailing by a score of 20-17.

  • Yeshiva quickly bounced back in the second quarter, jumping out to a five-point edge behind knockdown shooting from Schwartz, Maly-Danker, and Sigman. However, that advantage would not last, with the Gryphons tying the game at 29-all before recapturing the lead. Sarah Lawrence went up by as many as six points, and while an Amkraut jumper cut that margin to four, YU still went into the half down, 37-33.

  • Despite pulling within just one point at 39-38 early on in the third quarter, YU's deficit quickly ballooned, reaching 15 points at 54-39 with 3:26 remaining. Back-to-back threes from Maly-Danker and Amkraut sliced into SLC's lead, yet the Macs still lagged behind at 58-48 going into the final 10 minutes.

  • Despite their deficit, the women in blue and white continued to push, drawing within four at 61-57. However, the effort was not enough, as when the final buzzer sounded, the Macs left Bronxville with a 78-69 loss.
