Women’s Basketball Closes Road Stretch With Loss at SJLI

NEW YORK, NY - Taking the court for the final time in January, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 70-50 on Tuesday, Jan. 27th.

The Maccabees saw two players score in double digits. Jasmin Maly-Danker led the way with 14 points off the bench, while Naomi Sigman put up 12 of her own.

With the result, the Macs are now 1-17, 0-13 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maccabees got off to a slow start, falling behind 14-5 through the first seven minutes of play. While a layup from Danielle Zaretsky and a foul shot from Sigman pushed YU's point total to eight, the Macs still closed out the first quarter down 10 at 18-8.

  • Yeshiva deficit grew in the second quarter, with the women in blue and white trailing by as many as 17 points at 39-22. Despite strong shooting from Maly-Danker, Sigman, and Lauren Ashkenazi amassing an impressive 15 points over the period, the Macs still went into the break trailing 39-23.

  • YU's offense continued to produce at a steady clip, tallying 13 points in the third quarter. However, they could not match SJLI's potent attack, with the Golden Eagles notching 19 points and pushing the margin between the two squads out to 22 at 58-36.

  • The Macs had their most successful stretch of play in the fourth quarter, outscoring SJLI by a margin of 14-12. However, the effort was not enough for YU to overcome their deficit, with Yeshiva leaving Patchogue with a 70-50 loss.
