Women’s Basketball Opens 2026 With Loss at Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, PA - Taking the court for the first time in the new year, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Cedar Crest College, losing to the Falcons by a score of 51-30 on Sunday, Jan. 4th.

The Maccabees were led on both sides of the ball by Ilana Schwartz. The standout rookie helmed the team in nearly every statistical category, posting an impressive statline of 14 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

With the result, the Macs are now 1-10 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maccabees jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, going up 7-3 through the first five minutes of play thanks to shots from Schwartz and Fortune Hanan. However, that advantage would not last. Yeshiva only scored two more points over the rest of the period to Cedar Crest's 11, with the Macs trailing 14-9 after 10 minutes of play.

  • In the second quarter, while YU's offense managed to crack double digits, the Macs struggled to score, putting up just six points on 3-16 shooting. Yeshiva's defense proved a bright spot, only allowing 10 points, yet the women in blue and white still went into the break down by nine at 24-15.

  • Yeshiva's deficit continued to grow throughout the second half, hitting double digits early in the third quarter. Over the final 20 minutes of play, the Macs scored 15 points while the Falcons put up 27, with YU ultimately falling, 51-30.
