NEW YORK, NY - Playing at home for the first time in 2026, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Farmingdale State College, losing to the Rams by a score of 62-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 6th.
The Maccabees were helmed on both sides of the ball by the duo of
Naomi Sigman and
Ilana Schwartz. Sigman led the team in scoring with 19 points, also tacking on seven rebounds and a block, while Schwartz notched a statline of 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
With the result, the Macs are now 1-11, 0-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva jumped out to a fast start, seizing a 10-2 lead off buckets from Sigman, Schwartz, and Fortune Hanan. While Farmingdale's offense did find their own rhythm, ultimately managing eight points on the quarter, the margin between the two squads held firm, with YU closing out the first ten minutes of play with a 14-8 edge.
- Despite an early Sigman triple pushing YU's lead to nine just 13 seconds into the second quarter, the Macs were unable to hold off the Farmingdale attack. The Rams continued to slice into the Maccabees' advantage over the following four minutes, going up for the first time at 18-17. The lead proceeded to change hands six more times throughout the rest of the period, finally settling at 29-28 in Farmingdale's favor, a scoreline that would hold into the break.
- Both squads went basket-for-basket throughout the third quarter, with Yeshiva not allowing Farmingdale more than a seven point advantage. The Maccabees closed out the period trailing by just five at 41-36.
- Unfortunately, YU could not keep pace with the Rams in the fourth quarter. Farmingdale outscored Yeshiva by a margin of 21-7 throughout the final ten minutes, sending the Macs back uptown with a 62-43 loss.
