NEW YORK, NY - Playing in their penultimate non-conference match of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team took down John Jay College, beating the Bloodhounds by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday, Sep. 30th.
The Maccabee offense was led by
Franco Busso, with the senior captain tallying all three of YU's scores. The hat trick under his belt, the Argentinian now sits at 23 career goals, ranking him second overall in Maccabee history.
With the result, the Macs improve to 3-2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva fell behind early, with John Jay opening the scoring in just the second minute, going up 1-0.
- Undeterred, YU answered just 10 minutes later. In the 12th minute of the match, Busso capitalized on a pass from David Reuven, sending the ball into the back of the net and tying the game at 1-1.
- Yeshiva continued to roll, taking the lead for the first time at 2-1 when Busso was assisted by Ariel Diner in the 23rd minute.
- John Jay leveled the score at 2-2 three minutes later, only for YU to recapture the advantage in the 27th minute. Busso completed his hat trick off an assist from Barel Lavinsky, cementing his place in the Yeshiva record books. This 3-2 scoreline would hold into the half.
- Yeshiva's defense stepped up in the second half, helmed by keeper Ran Nachlieli. Nachlieli faced down 19 shots in the final 45 minutes, tallying 11 saves. This impressive performance secured the win for the Maccabees, closing out the match with a 3-2 YU win.
