JAMAICA, NY - Taking the field for the first time in October, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team fell to Maritime College, losing to the Privateers by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 6th.
Yeshiva's goal came off the right foot of
Franco Busso, with the Maccabee captain giving YU a second half lead.
With the result, the Macs are now 3-3-2, 0-3-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both squads were held scoreless through the first half. While Maritime managed six shots, and Yeshiva four, neither were able to find paydirt. At the break, the scoreboard read, 0-0.
- The Maccabees picked up an early advantage come the start of the second period. Just eight seconds into the second half, a Maritime defender picked up his second yellow card, allowing the Macs to play a man up for nearly the entire remaining 45 minutes. Yeshiva quickly capitalized on this mismatch in the 49th minute, with Busso making the most of a pass from Miles Form to put the ball into the back of the net, giving YU a 1-0 lead.
- Unfortunately, Yeshiva's advantage would not hold. Maritime tied the game at 1-all in the 73rd minute, before taking the lead in the 82nd off a penalty kick. The Maccabees were not without their chances to respond, but were ultimately unable to equalize, dropping the contest, 2-1.
