Busso Magic Carries Men’s Soccer to Draw With USMMA

TEANECK, NJ - Closing out their week at home, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team drew the United States Merchant Marine Academy, tying the Mariners 2-2 on Sunday, Oct. 11th.

Both of Yeshiva's goals came off the right foot of Franco Busso, with the senior captain shouldering the offensive load for the Maccabees.

With the result, the Macs are now 3-3-4, 0-3-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • USMMA opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net just 26 seconds into the match.

  • The Mariners extended their lead in the 19th minute, putting the Maccabees in a 2-0 hole.

  • However, a team used to adversity, Yeshiva began to claw its way back. In the 38th minute, capitalizing on a USMMA red card, Busso buried a free kick from just outside the box, slashing YU's deficit in half. This 2-1 scoreline would hold into the break.

  • Despite a combined 10 shots, both squads were held scoreless through the vast majority of the second half. With the scoreboard locked at 2-1 in USMMA's favor with less than 10 seconds to go, YU's fate seemed sealed. That was when Busso stepped up once again. With the ball bouncing between players just outside of the Mariner box, Yeshiva's captain corralled the ball, shrugged off a trio of defenders, and placed a shot into the lower left hand corner, tying the game just before time expired. When the final buzzer did sound after a raucous Maccabee celebration, the scoreline read, 2-2.
