PURCHASE, NY - Competing in their penultimate conference road game, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to Purchase College, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 21st.
The Maccabees were led by the duo of
Elle Ohayon and
Emma Lieber. Ohayon proved a crucial all-around piece, tallying a statline of six kills, five digs, one ace, one assist, and one block, while Lieber locked down the floor for YU, scooping up 20 digs on the night.
With the result, the Macs are now 0-10, 0-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struggled in the first set. While the Maccabees were able to reach a double-digit point total behind kills from Ohayon, Leya Dennen, and Eliana Rosenberg, the effort was not enough to keep up with Purchase's attack, as the Macs fell, 25-10.
- The Maccabee offense continued to stumble in the second set, this time only reaching nine total points to drop the period, 25-9.
- It was in the third set that YU finally found their footing. Helmed by their senior captain in Ohayon, the Maccabees jumped out to an early lead, up by four through the first 18 serves at 11-7. While Purchase fought back, the women in blue and white persisted, keeping their advantage intact through a scoreline of 18-17. Even when the Panthers fully closed the gap at 18-all, the two teams continued to scrap back and forth, with the score being tied five different times before finally settling at 25-all. Unfortunately, Purchase managed to pull away from there, taking four of the final five points to secure the set, 28-26, and the match, 3-0.
