NEW YORK, NY - A watershed moment in Yeshiva Athletics history, the Maccabees have hired their first full-time coach, welcoming
Adi Markovich as an assistant coach of both the Men's and Women's Basketball programs.
"I'm very excited to add Adi to our staff in a full time capacity," said Men's Basketball Head Coach Elliot Steinmetz. "Having someone so dedicated to, and so familiar with, our university and student-athletes is a tremendous step forward for our basketball program."
No stranger to Yeshiva Athletics, Markovich has been a Maccbee fixture for the past seven years. Originally from Omer, Israel, he was a member of the Men's Basketball Team from 2020-24, winning a Skyline Conference Championship and securing an NCAA Tournament berth in the 2021-22 season.
Following his playing days, Markovich joined the YU Men's Basketball Coaching staff, serving as a part-time assistant coach for two seasons from 2024-26. With his help, the Maccabees won back-to-back Skyline titles, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 in March of 2026.
Alongside his duties with the men's team, Markovich will serve as an assistant coach on the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team, using his years of experience to guide an ascendant Maccabee program. About his hiring, Women's Basketball Head Coach Brian Tumpowksy had to say, "Adi will be a phenomenal asset to our staff and student athletes. Not only is he a coach and player development specialist, but he played and went to school at YU. He embodies the student-athlete experience. I'm excited to see the impact he has on this program."
