NEW YORK, NY - Playing in their penultimate game of the 2025-26 season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, losing to the Bears by a score of 61-50 on Sunday, Feb. 15th.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the duo of
Ilana Schwartz and
Naomi Sigman, with Schwartz helming the team with 18 points, while Sigman tallied 11.
On the defensive side of the ball, YU saw a dominant performance out of
Fortune Hanan. The 5-11 junior pulled down a new personal-best 16 rebounds on the afternoon, while also tacking on three blocks and three steals.
With the result, the Macs are now 3-21, 2-17 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struggled in the first quarter, managing just two baskets and scoring six points. SJBK capitalized on YU's rut, ending the period with a 17-6 lead.
- Finally finding their groove, the second quarter saw a much improved YU offense, with the women in blue and white tallying 12 points on shots from Schwartz, Sigman, Hanan, and Tali Cohen. However, the effort was not enough to shrink their deficit, headed into the half trailing by 16 at 34-18.
- The Maccabees once again saw improvement to start the second half, kicking their point total in the third quarter up to 16. However, the Bears also continued to produce, with Yeshiva closing the period down, 56-34.
- YU played a masterful fourth quarter, outscoring their conference foe by a margin of 16-5, and slashing SJBK's lead all the way down to 11. However, there simply was not enough time left in the game for the Macs to complete their comeback, ultimately falling by a score of 61-50.
