NEW YORK, NY - Taking on their first Skyline opponent of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to Sarah Lawrence College, losing to the Gryphons by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Feb. 17th.
 
The Maccabees were led by the duo of Mateusz Karpow and Eli Waxman, with Karpow notching 20 kills, while Waxman served up 23 assists.
 
With the result, the Macs are now 0-5, 0-1 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first set proved a close affair through the first 42 serves, with the score drawing even three different times at 6-all, 7-all, and 11-all, before settling at 16-all. Yeshiva managed a brief 18-16 lead off an SLC attack error and Karpow kill, but that advantage was short-lived. Sarah Lawrence went on a 9-2 run to close out the period, winning the set, 25-20.
   
• Even closer than the first, the second set was deadlocked throughout the majority of the period, seeing the lead change hands five times before the scoreboard read 20-all. Sarah Lawrence captured the next three points to go up 23-20, but were immediately answered by two hammer kills from Karpow, one assisted by Waxman and the other by rookie Sean Felderman. Unfortunately, the Macs could not hang on, dropping the next two points to lose the set, 25-22.
   
• Yeshiva fell behind early to kick off the third and final set, trailing 12-7 and then 15-8. Kills from Karpow and Alex Kirievsky over the next 20 serves managed to get the Macs back within five at 22-17, but the effort would come up short, as YU ultimately dropped the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
