Men’s Volleyball Drops Road Opener at Lehman

BRONX, NY - Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell at Lehman College, losing to the Lightning by a score of 3-0 on Thursday, Feb. 19th.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the duo of Mateusz Karpow and Sean Felderman. Both tallied new career bests, with Karpow slamming home 22 kills, while Felderman served up 20 assists.

On the defensive side of the ball, Yoni Rubin patrolled the floor for YU, tallying a team-high 13 digs.

With the result, the Macs are now 0-6, 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva fell behind early in set number one, trailing 12-6 through the first 18 serves. The Maccabees were able to pull within five points at 18-13 off kills from Karpow and Felderman, but the effort was not enough to wrench control away from Lehman. The Lightning outscored YU by a margin of 7-5 to close out the period, as the Macs fell, 25-18.

  • Once again falling behind, Yeshiva kicked off the second set down, trailing at 10-3 and then 15-8. A pair of back-to-back kills from Karpow kicked off a 4-1 Mac run that got the men in blue and white within four points at 16-12, but that margin would prove the closest Yeshiva came to taking a lead of their own. Lehman outscored YU 9-2 over the next 11 points, closing out the period, 25-14.

  • Undeterred by their deficit, the Maccabees came into the third set swinging, jumping out a fast 6-3 lead off three kills and a service ace from Karpow. Lehman fought back, tying the game at 7-all, but the Macs matched the Lightning blow for blow, with the score knotting up 10 different times before finally settling at 24-all. Unfortunately, it was Lehman that secured the final two decisive points, with Yeshiva dropping the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
