NEW YORK, NY - Opening the 2026 season at home, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to John Jay College, losing to the Bloodhounds by a score of three sets to zero on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd.
The Maccabees were led on both sides of the ball by
Mateusz Karpow. Making his Yeshiva debut, the 6-9 Poland native recorded a team-high nine kills, while also tacking on two digs, one block, and one assist.
Besides Karpow, YU saw another pair of players take the court for the first time wearing the Maccabee blue and white, with
Alex Kirievsky and
Sean Felderman both debuting for Yeshiva against John Jay.
With the result, the Macs are now 0-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva fell behind early in the first set, trailing by 15-5 through the first 20 serves. While the Macs were able to notch a pair of kills, with both Karpow and Kirievsky hammering the ball home, the effort was not enough to overcome John Jay's advantage, as YU dropped the period, 25-12.
- The Macs similarly fell behind in the second set, finding themselves down 17-8 despite kills from Karpow, Kirievsky, and Felderman. Two more kills managed to push YU's point total to 12, but the Bloodhound offense proved too potent, with the Macs falling, 25-12.
- Despite their 2-0 deficit, the Maccabees fought back in the third set, seeing the score tied at 10-all off three back-to-back kills from Karpow. Unfortunately, the Macs could not capitalize on that momentum. John Jay outscored YU 15-8 through the next 23 serves, as Yeshiva ultimately lost, 25-18.
