THROGGS NECK, NY - Kicking off February with a bang, the Yeshiva Men's Basketball Team took down Maritime College, beating the Privateers by a score of 94-78 on Wednesday, Feb. 4th.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw five players score in double digits.
Yoav Oselka led the way with 27 points, while
Zevi Samet,
Max Zakheim,
Roy Itcovichi, and
Dothan Bardichev posted 24, 14, 10, and 10 respectively.
Proving his passing prowess and superb court vision, rookie phenom
Yair Dovrat racked up 13 assists on the night, securing himself a spot in the YU history books at sixth all-time in single game assists.
On top of his surgical precision scoring the ball, Oselka also excelled on the defensive end, dominating the paint and completing his double-double with 12 rebounds.
With the result, the Macs improve to 13-8, 12-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both squads traded baskets through the first seven minutes of play, seeing YU up by just two at 14-12 with 13:24 left. This deadlock persisted for another six minutes, as Yeshiva's lead still sat at 24-22 after over 13 minutes had ticked off the clock.
- However, catalyzed by a tough Itcovichi layup and eight straight points from Samet, Yeshiva finally secured some breathing room. Launching their advantage into double digits, YU led by 10 with 21 seconds remaining. While a buzzer-beating Maritime layup cut that edge back down to eight, the men in blue and white still carried a comfortable 45-37 lead into the break.
- Yeshiva's lead orbited the halftime margin through the first five minutes of the second half, with the scoreboard reading 55-47 with 14:44 remaining. It was then though that the Macs were able to permanently break away. Shooting 11-16 over the next 10 minutes of gametime, YU ballooned their advantage out to 20 points at 82-62, firmly in control of the game with just over five minutes remaining. The stout Yeshiva defense staved off any hopes of a late Maritime comeback over the final few possessions, walking out of Throggs Neck with a 94-78 win, and with their undefeated conference record still in place.
