Men’s Volleyball Snags Set Win in Loss to Pratt

NEW YORK, NY - Picking up their third set win of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to the Pratt Institute, losing to the Cannoneers by a score of 3-1 on Monday, Feb. 9th.

The Maccabees were led on both sides of the ball by Mateusz Karpow, as the 6-9 hitter tallied an impressive statline of 17 digs, 15 kills, three blocks, and three service aces.

Proving his skills as a setter, rookie Sean Felderman also had a stellar night, putting up a new personal best 19 assists.

With the result, the Macs are now 0-3 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva fell behind early in the first set, trailing by scores of 8-1 and 15-6 through the first two dozen serves. However, catalyzed by three back-to-back-to-back blocks by the towering duo of Massimo Bertini and Karpow, the Maccabees began to rally, with an 11-2 run bringing YU within just one point at 20-19. Despite the commendable effort, YU's push was not enough to fully seize control, with Pratt ultimately closing out the period by a score of 25-22.

  • Undeterred by their early deficit, Yeshiva continued to fight in the second set, matching Pratt blow for blow. Through the first 26 serves, the lead changed hands seven times, finally settling at 13-13. This powerful showing from the Maccabee attack persisted even as the Cannoneers faltered, allowing YU to build up a 23-16 lead, and eventually take the set, 25-19.

  • Much like the second set, the third saw both squads trading leads until the score sat at 11-all. This deadlock persisted, stretching out to 15-15, and then 17-17. A 6-0 Maccabee run gave the men in blue and white a 22-17 advantage, but that edge would not last. Pratt fought back, scoring eight of the final nine points to take the set win, 25-23.

  • Proving just how evenly matched the two teams were, the fourth and final set once again saw Pratt and Yeshiva knotted up, first at 6-all, then 18-all, and finally all the way out to 24-all. However, it was the Cannoneers who managed the final two points, notching two consecutive kills to take the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-1.
