WEST HARRISON, NY - Playing their closest game of the season, the Yeshiva Baseball Team fell to John Jay College, losing to the Bloodhounds by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday, Mar. 10th.
Â
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by
Jacob Canner, with the right fielder recording two hits and a run on four at bats.
Â
His brother,
Josh Canner, had a stellar night on the mound, tossing five strikeouts over 3.2 innings and only allowing one hit.
Â
With the result, the Macs are now 0-5.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees jumped out to an early lead, going up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. After doubling to right field, Jacob Canner was driven in by an RJ Hellman RBI single, putting the Macs up over their crosstown rival.
Â
- While John Jay tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth, Yeshiva quickly recaptured the advantage in the bottom of the inning. Hellman scored on a single from Lior Bongart, putting YU back up at 2-1.
Â
- The Bloodhounds struck back in the fifth, going up 3-2, but a tenacious Maccabee batting order responded, tying the game at 3-3 when Jake Arnow scored an errant throw from the John Jay first baseman. This scoreline would hold through the next three innings, with both squads going into the ninth deadlocked.
Â
- Unfortunately for Yeshiva, it was in the ninth that John Jay managed to eke out a win. The bloodhounds took a 4-3 lead in the top of the inning, an effort the Macs were unable to match. Yeshiva recorded their final outs on a double-play ball, ultimately dropping the contest by one at 4-3.
