OLD WESTBURY, NY - Taking on a conference foe on the road for the first time this season, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to The College at Old Westbury, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Mar. 11th.
The Maccabees were led across the board by
Mateusz Karpow. The 6-9 junior stepped up in nearly every statistical category, putting up 15 kills, four aces, four digs, two assists, and a block.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-11, 0-5 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees edged out the Panthers for an early lead in a close first set, up 8-7 off kills from Karpow and Alex Kirievsky. However, it was then that Old Westbury took control, with eight straight points putting the home team up, 15-8. Yeshiva fought back, drawing within four at 19-15, but the effort was not enough, as the Macs ultimately fell, 25-19.
- The second set proved a barn-burner, with both teams trading early runs to tie the game up at 8-all. This deadlock persisted throughout the period, with the teams knotted up from 18-all all the way up to 26-all. Unfortunately, it was Old Westbury that managed to capture two consecutive points, winning the set, 28-26.
- Another close period, the two squads traded the advantage back and forth throughout the third set, seeing the pendulum swing back and forth five times before settling definitely in OW's favor. Yeshiva managed to keep the score close, drawing within one point on two separate occasions, yet the men in blue and white could not wrest control of the game away, dropping the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
