RIVERDALE, NY - Opening the week on the road, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, losing to the Dolphins by a score of 3-0 on Monday, Mar. 16th.
The Maccabees were led on both sides of the ball by
Mateusz Karpow, with the 6-9 junior putting up a statline of eight kills, two blocks, three digs, and an ace.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-12, 0-6 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva jumped out to an early lead in the first set, up 5-4 through the first nine serves. However, UMSV quickly took control, taking a 15-10 lead. Despite kills from Karpow, YU's deficit only grew, down by as many as nine points at 21-12 before ultimately falling, 25-17.
- Despite keeping the contest close early on, the Maccabees quickly fell behind in set two, losing 13-6 through the first 19 serves. The margin between the two squads continued to grow, reaching as many as 10 points at 20-10. While YU was able to shrink UMSV's advantage down to five thanks to stellar serving streaks from Amiti Trabelsi and Gabe Simon-Hakalir, the effort was not enough, as the Dolphins came out on top, 25-17.
- In the third and final set, Yeshiva took an early edge, going up 5-3 behind a kill from Karpow and four UMSV errors. Unfortunately, this margin would not last long, as eight straight Dolphin points catapulted the home team out to an 11-5 lead. The Maccabees fought back as the period progressed, closing within two points at 24-22, but the effort was not enough, as YU dropped the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
