BROOKLYN, NY - Playing their second game in as many days, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, losing to the Bears by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Mar. 17th.
The Maccabees were led by the dynamic duo of
Mateusz Karpow and
Eli Waxman. Waxman tallied a team-high 28 assists, while Karpow led his squads in nearly every other category with 19 kills, two aces, and two blocks.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-13, 0-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees jumped out to an early lead in set number one, up 8-6 off kills from Karpow, Gabe Simon-Hakalir, and Alex Kirievsky. However, a 6-0 SJBK run erased that advantage, burying YU in a 12-8 hole. The Maccabees continued to fight, not allowing the Bears more than a seven-point lead, but the effort was not enough, with the men in blue and white falling, 25-17.
- Despite early offensive success, the Maccabees once again fell behind in set number two, trailing 14-7 through the first 21 serves. Undeterred by the deficit, Yeshiva's attack did not relent, as kills from Karpow and Sean Felderman clawed the Macs back within three points at 22-19. Unfortunately, YU simply ran out of time, as SJBK secured the final three points to claim a 25-20 set win.
- The Macs continued to scrap in the third, fighting to a 13-11 scoreline in SJBK's favor despite an early deficit. However, it was then that the Bears broke away, going on an 11-5 run to close out the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
