CAMDEN, NY - Traveling down to South Jersey, the Yeshiva Baseball Team fell to SUNY Polytechnic Institute, losing to the Wildcats by a score of 15-2 on Tuesday, Mar. 17th.
Â
The Maccabees were led by
Jacob Canner, with the senior tallying two hits and a run on three at bats.
Â
With the result, the Macs are now 0-8 on the year.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva saw steady offensive production, posting seven hits and two runs throughout seven innings of play. While RJ Hellman, Noah Steinmetz, Jake Arnow, and Canner all tallied hits through the first six, it was not until the bottom of the seventh that success in the batter's box translated into runs.
Â
- Canner got the Macs rolling to start the inning, doubling to center field on the very first pitch. He was then brought home when Reuben Benzaquen reached on an error, tallying YU's first run of the contest. Benzaquen himself scored on the next at bat, when Izzy Gober dinked a single to third baseman.
Â
- Unfortunately, YU's defensive unit did not find the same success. Despite a strong showing in the first inning that saw the Macs only surrender one run despite facing loaded bases, SUNY Poly's bats broke through, scoring two in the second, eight in the third, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth, locking down the 15-2 win for the Wildcats.
