NEW YORK, NY - Playing in their penultimate home match of the 2026 season, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, losing to the Dolphins by a score of 3-1 on Monday, Mar. 23rd.
The Maccabees were led by the ever-reliable duo of
Mateusz Karpow and
Eli Waxman. Karpow dominated above the net, tallying 14 kills and seven blocks, while Waxman thrived under it, notching 18 assists and six digs.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-17, 0-11 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva raced out to a hot start in the first set, going up 8-1 behind stellar service runs from Waxman and Peter Osen. The Maccabees managed to maintain their lead for a time, fighting off the Dolphin comeback up until the visiting team tied to the game at 12-all, before seizing the advantage for themselves at 13-12. However, used to brawling from behind, YU rallied, seizing back their edge and growing it out to three points at 18-15. UMSV surged once again, briefly retaking the lead at 22-21, but the Macs proved more resilient, scoring four of the final five points to take the set, 25-23.
- Emboldened by their set advantage, the Maccabees jumped out to an early lead in set two, riding Karpow's hot hand to an 11-10 edge. YU's mettle would be tested, with UMSV proceeding to take a lead of their own, building it up to as many as three points at 15-12. Yet the men in blue and white refused to let their conference foe pull away, scoring three straight to tie the game back up at 15-all. However, it was then that the Dolphins seized control. The Macs managed to keep pace for three points, keeping UMSV within one from 17-16 through 19-18, but they would not be able to close the gap completely. YU could only watch as the Dolphins went on a 6-1 run to close the set, winning by a score of 25-19.
- The third set proved a back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing hands five times before settling at 18-15 in UMSV's favor. The Maccabees attempted a comeback, drawing within three at 23-20 behind a pair of Dolphin service errors and a kill from Karpow, but the effort came up short, with the away team taking the period, 25-20.
- Having battled hard, the Macs ran out of gas in the fourth and final set, managing just four kills to UMSV's 15. Ultimately, YU dropped the set, 25-14, and the match. 3-1.
