NEW YORK, NY - Returning to conference play, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to Manhattanville University, losing to the Valiants by a score of 3-0 on Thursday, Mar. 5th.
The Maccabees were led on both sides of the ball by
Mateusz Karpow. The 6-9 Poland native put up an impressive statline, leading YU in nearly every category with 11 kills, nine digs, three aces, and a block.
With the result, the Macs are now 2-8, 0-3 in Skyline play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees managed to keep things close early on in the first set, trailing by just one at 10-9. However, despite solid production from Karpow, Manhattanville slowly pulled away, up by five points at 20-15, before ultimately taking the period, 25-17.
- Unlike the first set, Yeshiva fell behind early in the second, down 13-6 through the first 19 serves. A 5-1 run that included two back-to-back Karpow service aces sparked hopes of a comeback, but that effort would come up short. YU could not match Manhattanville's relentless attack, dropping the set, 25-17.
- The third set was once again close early on, with YU trailing just 7-6 through the first 13 serves. Unfortunately, the Maccabees could not keep up, as Manhattanville pulled ahead 19-11. Four straight Yeshiva points got the Macs' point total up to 15, but that run would prove insufficient to overtake the Valiants' hold on the period. Yeshiva ultimately fell by a score of 25-16, losing the match, 3-0.
