Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Falls to Purchase at Home

NEW YORK, NY - Playing a conference opponent at home for the last time for over two weeks, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team fell to Purchase College, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Mar. 8th.

The Maccabees were led by Mateusz Karpow, with the DI transfer putting up 10 kills and two blocks on the night.

With the result, the Macs are now 2-9, 0-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva fell behind early to kick off the first set, trailing 7-2 through the first nine serves. Not wanting their conference foe to break away, the Macs rallied, closing within one point at 8-7. Unfortunately, this effort was not enough. Purchase once again pulled away to the tune of a 13-7 advantage, and while three straight points from YU sparked some hopes of a comeback at 13-10, the Macs simply could not keep up with the Panthers' dynamic attack. The Maccabees were outscored 12-5 over the final 17 points, ultimately dropping the set, 25-15.

  • The Maccabees struggled out the gate in set two, trailing 19-6 through the first 25 serves. Kills from Karpow and Peter Osen managed to eventually push YU's point total out to 12, but Purchase's hold on the period could not be usurped, as YU fell, 25-12.

  • Unlike the previous two sets, the third proved a much more competitive affair. Despite once again falling behind early, trailing by as many as 8 points at 15-7, Yeshiva surged, continually chipping away at the Panthers' advantage through strong serving runs and clever attack setups. This push culminated in YU drawing within three points at 24-21, but unfortunately the clock struck midnight on the Macs' Cinderella run. An attack error from Karpow gave Purchase the final point, closing out the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
