BROOKLYN, NY - Taking home their first wins of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Volleyball Team took down Medgar Evers College in a double header, defeating the Cougars in both games by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Mar. 4th.
In game one, the Maccabees were led by the duo of
Mateusz Karpow and
Eli Waxman, with Karpow slamming home six kills and Waxman serving up 15 assists.
In game two, a different pair dominated with
Sean Felderman and
Massimo Bertini ruling the day. Felderman served up 15 assists, while Bertini notched a season-high nine kills.
With the results, the Maccabees improve to 2-7 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game One (W, 3-0)
- Yeshiva dominated the first set, allowing Medgar Evers to put up just six points. The Maccabees jumped out to a 16-1 lead, seeing kills from Karpow, Bertini and Peter Osen. The Cougars would manage just three kills, as YU took the period, 25-6.
- Not letting their foot off the gas, the Macs once again jumped out to a fast start in set number two, taking a 12-6 lead through the first 18 serves. Medgar Evers fought back, managing to draw within four at 15-11, but the Maccabees refused to give their foe any quarter. Catalyzed by a kill from Noam Narrowe, a 7-0 run catapulted YU's advantage out to 22-11, with the Macs ultimately winning the set, 25-14.
- Unlike the first two, the third set proved a much closer affair. The lead changed five times before the scoreboard read 21-all, with both squads seemingly evenly matched. However, intent on securing their first win of the season, the Maccabees rallied, taking the final four points to win the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game Two (W, 3-0)
- The Maccabees got out to a hot start in game two, jumping out to a fast 14-5 lead in set one. The Cougars fought back, closing with five at 18-13, but YU held firm, taking the final seven of eight points to close out the period, 25-14.
- Yeshiva fell behind early in set two, trailing 7-2 through the first nine serves. However, catalyzed by a Waxman kill, the Macs struck back, tying the game at nine before taking the lead at 13-12. YU then went on a 12-point run, winning the set, 25-12.
- Looking to close out their second win of the night in style, the Macs were truly dominant in set three. Yeshiva held the Cougars to just eight points, while the men in blue and white tallied 13 kills, ultimately winning the set, 25-8, and the match, 3-0.
