Softball Drops Shootout at York

BELLEROSE, NY - On a day when their offense shone, the Yeshiva Softball Team fell to York College, dropping a doubleheader to the Cardinals by scores of 18-8 and 31-22 on Friday, Apr. 17th.

In game one, the Maccabees were led by Aliza Feldman and Layla Hellman, with Feldman tallying three hits, three RBIs, and a run, while Hellman put up three hits, two RBIs, and a run. Hellman also had a monster outing in game two, recording three runs, three hits, three RBIs, and a stolen base.

With the result, the Macs are now 0-17, 0-10 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 18-8)
  • Yeshiva's offense struggled through the first four innings, managing just four hits while leaving nine runners stranded. York took full advantage of YU's woes, jumping out to an 18-0 lead off of two runs in the first, six in the second, seven in the third, and three in the fourth.

  • It was not until the fifth inning that the Macs brought their runners home. Yeshiva put up eight runs, seeing Feldman, Hellman, Galit Roth, Allison Bender, Maya Dennen, Zahava Moskowitz, Elisheva Trapedo, and Shira Pfeiffer all score. Unfortunately, the effort was not enough to erase the team's deficit, as the Maccabees fell, 18-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (L, 31-22)
  • Both squads put up a pair of runs in the first inning, going into the second tied at 2-all. The Maccabees went up 3-2 in the top of the second when Pfeiffer scored on a throwing error, only for that margin to be erased by a 10-run half inning by York, putting YU in a 12-3 hole.

  • Down but undeterred, the Maccabees rallied in the top of the third. Yeshiva put up 11 runs of their own, with Moskowitz, Bender, Kieffer, Pfeiffer, Dennen, Roth, Feldman, and Ariela Haftel all stomping on home plate. Behind that offensive explosion, YU seized a two-run edge at 14-12.

  • YU further expanded their lead in the fourth inning, putting up seven more runs for a 21-14 lead.

  • Unfortunately, Yeshiva's advantage would not last. The Cardinals tallied 17 runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 10-run lead at 31-21. Thatmargin proved unrecoverable for YU, as the Macs fell, 31-22.
