Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Opens Season With Draw at Purchase

PURCHASE, NY - Stepping out onto the field for the first time in 2026, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer team tied Purchase College, drawing even with the Panthers at 2-2 on Tuesday, Sep. 1st.

On top of this being the season opener, the game carried extra importance for four Maccabees, as it marked their career debut playing in the Yeshiva blue and white. Daniel Mermelszteyn, Nicolas Galer, Miles Form, and David Reuven all played their first game for YU, with all four earning a spot in the starting lineup.

On the night, the Maccabees were led by Franco Busso, with the senior tallying both of YU's goals.

With the result, the Macs are now 0-0-1, 0-0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While both squads were held scoreless and to a combined three shots on goal through the first 20 minutes, the Maccabees broke through in the 22nd. After corralling a deep clear from behind midfield, Busso poked the ball past two defenders, using his speed to set up a one-on-one with the keeper. Relying on his years of collegiate soccer experience, Yeshiva's co-captain deftly placed his shot in the bottom right-hand corner, putting the Macs up 1-0.

  • Purchase responded just seven minutes later, with the Panther tying the game at 1-all in the 29th minute. This scoreline would hold into the half.

  • Not content to let the tie stand, Busso struck again, this time just under 10 minutes into the second half. Assisted by a beautiful cross from Uri Aron and a controlling header from Form, the Argentinian striker used the crown of his head to hammer the ball through the outstretched hand of the keeper, seizing back a one-goal advantage for YU at 2-1.

  • While Yeshiva's lead lasted through the next 11 minutes, Purchase once again leveled the field in the 66th, making the most of a free kick to tie the game at 2-2.

  • The Maccabees rocketed seven more shots over the final 25 minutes, but none found paydirt. When the 90-minute buzzer finally sounded, the score stood at 2-all.
