RIVERDALE, NY - Taking the court for the first time in 2026, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, losing to the Dolphins by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Sep. 2nd.
On top of this being the season opener, the game carried extra weight for three Maccabees, as it marked their career debut playing volleyball in the Yeshiva blue and white.
Sarah Cohen,
Eden Rosenstock, and
Maya Dennen all slotted into the YU lineup, with Cohen and Rosenstock appearing in all three sets.
On the night, the Maccabees were led by the duo of
Elle Ohayon and
Naava Bodek. Ohayon helmed both the YU attack and defense, tallying team leading marks of three kills and nine digs, while Bodek notched five assists and served up two aces.
With the result, the Macs are now 0-1, 0-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva got off to a strong start in set one, jumping out to a 3-2 lead off three UMSV errors. While the Dolphins fought back, the Macs were more than able to keep pace, growing their advantage to two points at 12-10, and then to as many as four points at 18-14. This success came thanks to a multi-level attack, with Ohayon, Rosenstock, and Naomi Harpaz all notching points for YU. However, Yeshiva's edge would not hold. A 6-1 stretch for the home team put UMSV up 20-19, and while the Macs continued to fight, tying the game at 20-all and 22-all, they could not regain their advantage, ultimately falling when the Dolphins scored the final three points to win the set, 25-22.
- The Macs faltered in the second set, going down by as many as 15 points at 22-7. While a brief rally carried YU into the double digits at 24-13, the effort was not enough to bring the period with reach, as the women in blue and white fell, 25-13.
- Yeshiva managed to keep the third set close through the first 14 serves, trailing by just two points at 8-6. However, a 10-0 UMSV run allowed for the Dolphins to pull away, as the home team closed out the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
