Men’s Soccer Ends Season with Victory Over Berkeley on Senior Day

(L to R) Pransky, Banoun, Belecen

NEW YORK, NY – Three seniors ended their Yeshiva soccer career on top, with a 3-1 season finale victory over Berkeley College on Sunday.  The Maccabees end their 2009 season with a 4-10 overall record.

After falling behind 1-0 twenty minutes into the game, Zachary Stern knotted the game 20 seconds later, his fourth goal of the season. The teams went into the half tied at 1, despite the Maccabees outshooting their opponent in the half.

Stern scored his second goal of the afternoon early in the second half, moving him to the top of the team in points for the season (5G, 4A, 14P).  The goal proved to be the game winner, as Berkeley was held scoreless in the second.  Joseph Itkis added an insurance goal, his third of the season, to give Yeshiva the 3-1 win.

Moshe Azizollahoff started the game in goal for Yeshiva, earning a no decision and making two saves in the first half.  Mark Rocklin took over in the second half, blanking Berkeley and earning the win, while making 4 saves.

Three seniors played their final game for Yeshiva; Joshua Pransky, Daniel Belecen, and David Banoun.  The coaches, staff, and administration would like to thank those student-athletes for their hard work and dedication, and wish them luck in their future endeavors.
