Fencing Earns First Team Victory with Win Over Hunter

NEW YORK, NY – The men's fencing team captured their first team victory this past weekend at the Vassar College Tournament in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Sabre team won 9-0 and the Epee team outlasted Hunter 5-4 to give Yeshiva the 14-13 team win.

With a 9-0 cushion from the Sabre team, Hunter knotted the score at 9 when their Foil team took all the points from the Maccabees. It was up to the Epee team to get the win for the Macs, and they did just that.

Weapon leader Ari Friedman saved the day for the Macs, winning the fifth and final Epee bout for the overall 5-4 win. His victory put the Macs over the top 14-13, giving them their first win of the young season.

The team will not be back in action for nearly two months, as the December matches have been postponed. The next scheduled date for competition is January 31st, 2010 at the MACFA A Round Robin. The time and location is currently TBA.
