NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team played to a nail biting 62-61 finish on their home court against Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary Monday evening. The Knights (4-6, 3-2) missed their final shot from the paint as time expired. Yeshiva improved to 5-6 (4-3) on the season.

The first half was nothing short of exciting, as the Macs built a 5-0 lead, but saw it turn around in a heartbeat on a 7-0 run by the Knights. They expanded their lead to 6 points, but the Macs erased it quickly after David Gilboa hit a three pointer to put Yeshiva up 1. Two straight three's by Chen Biron ignited the offense to give Yeshiva its biggest lead of the half, 29-22. Mount Saint Mary came right back, closing the half on a 10-3 run, to go into the locker room down by one, 33-32.

The Macs held their lead the entire second half, although Mount Saint Mary was within striking distance the whole 20 minutes. The Macs looked to be pulling away, as 8 straight points between 11:59 and 8:11 gave them a 9 point advantage which was jump started by a Dovie Hoffman's three pointer. However, just like the rest of the game, the Knights battled back, rattling off 11 of the next 13 points to tie the game at 56 with 2:51 remaining.

After turning the ball on the offensive side, Gil Bash made up for it immediately, taking the ball away from the Knights and scoring a layup to take a 2 point lead. Mount Saint Mary cut it in half with a free throw at the other end, but Martin Leibovich answered with a pair of free throws for a 60-57 lead at the 1:34 mark. Missed free throws hurt the Knights, down the stretch, as they connected on only one of two on the following possession, to again find themselves down 2. With 37 seconds left, Gilboa hit a layup to extend the lead to 4. On the ensuing possession, the Knights hit a three pointer, and the game looked sure to come down to the last shot.

With fouls to give, Mount Saint Mary kept the game alive and the clock stopped over the final 28 seconds as long as possible. The Knights sent Biron to the line with 9 seconds showing and a 1 point lead. Biron missed the front end of the 1-1, and with no timeouts, the Knights pushed the ball up the court. Mount Saint Mary made one pass to an open Tim Morris, who saw his shot roll off the rim. David Gilboa secured the rebound, and time expired before the Knights were able to commit a foul.

Gil Bash led the offense with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. Martin Leibovich followed with 14  points and 6 rebounds. Chen Biron finished the game with 8 points, including a team high 5 assists.

The Macs have one more game before the break, this Sunday afternoon against St. Joseph's. Yeshiva will play host for the 2PM contest.
